If you notice that someone in your group needs additional care or support that’s beyond your capacity, please let a pastor know.
ICEBREAKER QUESTION OPTION:
What are you hoping to do or finish before the end of summer?
There is still room Pt. 4
SPEAKER: PASTOR Koyae Irving
Scriptures—
Luke 14:15-24
Key Takeaways—
Remember who “paid for the plate” - Jesus paid the ultimate price for our salvation, so don’t discount its value just because it cost you nothing.
God calls us to "go out" and invite others to His banquet (kingdom) so they can have the same wonderful salvation we enjoy.
We are called to venture into uncomfortable places and reach out to the lost and outcasts, even those who are outcasts to us.
There may be barriers (hedges) in our hearts that prevent us from reaching out to certain people or groups, either because of who they are or what they’ve done.
Discussion Questions—
The pastor shared a personal story about wedding invitations. How does this relate to our role in inviting others to God's kingdom?
In Luke 14:23, the master says, "Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges." What do you think these places represent in our modern context?
What are some "country lanes" or uncomfortable places God might be calling you to go to share His message?
The sermon mentioned "hedges" as barriers. What are some personal barriers or "hedges" that might be preventing you from reaching out to certain people?
How does remembering that Jesus "paid for the plate" (our salvation) impact your motivation to invite others to know Him?
Practical application—
This week, identify one "country lane" in your life - a place or group of people you normally wouldn't engage with. Pray for an opportunity to share God's love there.
Reflect on any "hedges" or barriers in your heart. Choose one to work on breaking down this week through prayer and intentional action.
Closing Prayer—
Heavenly Father,
Please give us the courage and opportunities to go out into uncomfortable places, look beyond the barriers we’ve erected, and invite others to your banquet. Help us to remember the true cost of our “plate,” our salvation. In Jesus name,
Amen.
