day 1: From Force to Friend

Scripture: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” – John 14:16-17

Devotional:
We often treat the Holy Spirit like a divine battery pack—a force we tap into for our own projects. But the Bible introduces Him as a Person. He is "another Advocate" just like Jesus—meaning a personal comforter, counselor, and legal defender. He has a mind, emotions, and a will. He can be grieved. The most radical shift in your spiritual life begins here: moving from using a force to knowing a Person. The question is not, "How much of Him do I have?" but, "How much of me does He have?"

Think About:

  1. Have I subtly treated the Holy Spirit as an impersonal "it" or a feeling? What does that look like in my daily life?

  2. What would change today if I consciously acknowledged the Holy Spirit as a Person living within me?

Pray:
Holy Spirit, forgive me for reducing You to a force or a feeling. I acknowledge You now as a divine Person. I welcome You. I want to know You, not just use You. Reveal Yourself to me today.
