The heart of a Rust City Group is to care for people and carry the culture of Rust City Church.

You don’t have to follow this guide like a script! Use discernment from the Holy Spirit as you lead your group discussion.

If you notice that someone in your group needs additional care or support that’s beyond your capacity, please let a pastor know.

ICEBREAKER QUESTION OPTION:

If you could only watch one movie or TV show for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Local church: Generosity, purpose, and provision

SPEAKER: PASTOR DOUG GARASIC

Scriptures—

2 Corinthians 9:11-14

Key Takeaways—

  • Where God places people, there is purpose, and where there is purpose, God provides provision

  • Generosity changes both the recipient and the giver

  • Obedience to God is proven through generous giving

  • The church's impact in the community depends on the provision from its members

  • God enriches people so they can be generous to others

  • Trusting God with finances leads to blessings and spiritual growth

Discussion Questions—

  1. What does it mean to 'graft into the family of God,' and how might this impact our approach to church involvement and community service?

  2. How can we cultivate a 'heart for the house' that goes beyond financial giving and extends to all aspects of our involvement with the church?

  3. In what ways can small group participation and Bible study enhance our understanding and practice of generosity?

  4. How does the concept of being 'spiritually rich' differ from material wealth, and in what ways can we pursue spiritual richness in our lives?

  5. How might our perspective on tithing and giving change if we viewed it as a 'trust exercise' with God rather than an obligation?

  6. How does the idea of 'proving our obedience through generosity' challenge our traditional views of faith and obedience?

  7. In what ways does our generosity not only impact those who receive, but also transform us as givers?

  8. How can we balance the tension between being generous and discerning when helping those in need, especially when we suspect some may be taking advantage?

  9. What might our church and community look like if every member fully embraced the challenge to contribute more than they consume?

Practical application—

Review your current involvement in the church. Identify one new way you can contribute your time, talent, or treasure this month.

Closing Prayer—

Lord, help us to be faithful stewards of what You have given us. Teach us to be obedient in generosity, not out of obligation, but out of love and trust in You. Open our hearts to give freely, of our time, our resources, and our gifts, so that we can be a blessing to others and a reflection of Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
