The heart of a Rust City Group is to care for people and carry the culture of Rust City Church.

You don’t have to follow this guide like a script! Use discernment from the Holy Spirit as you lead your group discussion.

If you notice that someone in your group needs additional care or support that’s beyond your capacity, please let a pastor know.

Discovering your purpose in God’s house

SPEAKER: PASTOR STEPHANIE GARASIC

Scriptures—

Exodus 31:1-6, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Peter 2:4-5, Romans 12:4-6

Key Takeaways—

  • God has created each person with unique gifts and purpose

  • Serving in the church can help discover and develop one's gifts

  • The church is not just a building, but the people of God working together

  • Investing in God's house through giving and serving brings personal growth and fulfills God's purpose

  • Creativity in serving God is encouraged and valued

  • Surrender to God's will is the starting point for finding purpose

Discussion Questions—

  1. How does the concept of being a "living stone" in God's spiritual house challenge or change your perspective on your role in the church community

  2. In what ways have you been treating your relationship with the church as a "stone out in a field by itself" rather than as a vital part of God's spiritual house?

  3. What steps can you take to move from being a spectator to an active participant in building God's house through your local church?

  4. In what ways might serving in the church help you discover your broader purpose and gifts, even if it seems unrelated to your career or personal goals?

  5. How might investing your "time, talent, and treasure" in God's house rather than just in your own life lead to a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment?

  6. What gifts or resources might you be withholding from God's house, and how could surrendering them impact both the church and your own spiritual growth?

  7. How can we cultivate a heart posture like King David's, who refused to offer God something that cost him nothing?

  8. How has God used your creative gifts in ways you didn't expect, and how might He be preparing you for future purposes you can't yet see?

  9. How does the idea that "creativity is birthed out of intimacy with God" challenge or inspire your approach to using your talents?

Closing Prayer—

Lord, I pray that you would help us to see where You are calling us to step in, to serve, and to be a part of what You are building. Give us courage to move from just watching to fully participating in Your house. Remind us that You use ordinary people to do extraordinary things when we are willing to say yes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
