The heart of a Rust City Group is to care for people and carry the culture of Rust City Church.
You don’t have to follow this guide like a script! Use discernment from the Holy Spirit as you lead your group discussion.
If you notice that someone in your group needs additional care or support that’s beyond your capacity, please let a pastor know.
ICEBREAKER QUESTION OPTION:
If you had a free Saturday with no responsibilities, how would you spend it?
unshakable: Part 4
SPEAKER: Pastor Doug Garasic
Scriptures—
Acts 20:18-38
Key Takeaways—
Rust City began with just 14 people in an office building—proof that surrender and obedience to God can spark something extraordinary.
What happens off the stage matters just as much as what happens on it.
True ministry means being faithful in both public leadership and private care for people. We’re all called to build the church—through our time, talent, and treasure.
Generosity isn’t just financial—it’s about showing up and serving with what God has given you.Church should be a place where masks come off and real life comes in. Authentic community grows when we’re honest, vulnerable, and committed to walking together.
Leadership may change, but the mission remains. The church moves forward when the whole body supports and trusts what God is doing through new leadership.
Discussion Questions—
What does it mean to have faith that trusts what God says, even when our circumstances might suggest otherwise?
How can we cultivate a faith that says "I will not forget you" to God, even when faced with challenges or societal pressures?
What does it mean to truly surrender everything to God, as Pastor Doug and Steph did when starting their church? How might this look in our own lives?
What does it look like to surrender our vision of the future to God's will, and how can we support each other in this process?
What does it mean to be rooted in the word, in time in His presence, in community, and in serving? How can we practically apply these concepts?
How can we foster a church community where people feel safe to take the mask off and be real with one another?
What does it mean to be forgiven and wounded as a Christian, and how can we move towards healing through fellowship?
How can we embody the principle that it is more blessed to give than to receive in our daily lives and within our church community?
Practical application—
This week, commit to one action that strengthens your roots in God and one that helps you reach someone in community.
Root: Spend 15–30 minutes this week doing something that deepens your connection to God—like reading a chapter of Scripture, journaling a prayer of surrender, or taking a walk while listening to worship music.
Reach: Intentionally connect with one person—text a friend who’s hurting, encourage someone at church, or grab coffee with someone to talk openly about life and faith.
Closing Prayer—
Heavenly Father,
We’re grateful for the gift of community and the reminder that we don’t walk this faith journey alone. We ask for continued growth and impact for our church community. May we be a place where people can take the mask off, find healing, and experience Your love in a real and powerful way. Use us this week—to love, to serve, to speak life, and to bring hope wherever we go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
