Christian-ish: PART 2
SPEAKER: PASTOR WES WASHINGTON
Scriptures—
1 Samuel 15:22-23
Key Takeaways—
Being a Christian is more than just words - it's how we live our lives.
Obedience is better than sacrifice.
Small choices can keep us stuck in cycles of sin or disobedience.
We may be sparing "curses" in our lives that God wants us to eliminate.
We have the power to break generational cycles and curses through obedience to God.
Discussion Questions—
In what ways might we be 'Christian-ish' rather than fully committed followers of Christ? How can we move towards greater authenticity in our faith?
What are some 'small choices' in your life that might be keeping you stuck spiritually? How can you address these?
How might our lives change if we truly embraced the idea that 'obedience is better than sacrifice'? What areas of partial obedience might we need to address?
In what ways do we sometimes justify holding onto things God has called us to let go of, and how can we recognize when we're doing this?
Pastor Wes mentioned that 'just because it's a good reason doesn't mean it's a God reason.' How can we discern between our own good intentions and God's specific instructions?
How can we break cycles of generational curses or negative patterns in our families? What role does personal responsibility play in this process
Pastor Wes spoke about God being 'near the broken-hearted.' How can this truth provide comfort and strength to those dealing with past traumas or abuse?
Practical application—
Accountability: Share one area where you need to move from "Christian-ish" to full obedience with a trusted friend or group member. Ask them to check in with you regularly.
Closing Prayer—
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing us that true obedience flows from a surrendered heart. Forgive us for the times we’ve clung to our own reasoning instead of trusting Your direction. Help us break free from cycles that keep us stuck and give us wisdom to discern Your voice above all. Remind us that You’re near to the broken and that healing is possible in You. Lead us this week to walk in truth, live with purpose, and reflect Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.
