ICEBREAKER QUESTION OPTION:
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this summer?
Christian-ish: PART 3
SPEAKER: PASTOR WES WASHINGTON
Scriptures—
Revelation 3:16; Deuteronomy 6:4-7
Key Takeaways—
Fathers must put God first to be the leaders their families need
Lukewarm faith in fathers produces lukewarm families and churches
The presence and active involvement of fathers significantly impacts children's faith and life outcomes
Fathers should examine what is "lording" over their lives and surrender it to God
Discipling children starts with fathers imprinting God's word on their own hearts
Discussion Questions—
In what areas of your life do you need to ask God to 'reorder your priorities', and how might this affect your role as a father or leader?
How might our lives and families change if we truly put God first, as emphasized in Deuteronomy 6:4–7?
How can we, as fathers or future fathers, ensure that we are not just 'Christian-ish' but authentic Christ-followers in both public and private spheres of our lives?
What are some practical ways we can model spiritual leadership and discipleship in our homes, especially for those who didn't have positive father figures growing up?
How might setting 'spiritual boundaries' in our homes look like, and what impact could this have on our families and future generations?
In what ways do you see the 'attack on fathers' manifesting in today's society, and how can we combat this as individuals and as a church community?
What steps can we take to ensure that our children's first and most impactful 'sermons' come from our lived priorities rather than just our words?
Practical application—
Intentional discipleship: For those with children, choose one way you will intentionally disciple your child this week (e.g., having a spiritual conversation, praying together, serving others as a family).
Closing Prayer—
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that spiritual leadership starts in the home. Forgive us for the times we've settled for being Christian in name only instead of fully surrendering to You. Help us reorder our priorities and model authentic faith to those You've entrusted to us. Heal the wounds left by absent or broken fatherhood, and empower us to break generational cycles. May our lives preach louder than our words. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
