The heart of a Rust City Group is to care for people and carry the culture of Rust City Church.

You don’t have to follow this guide like a script! Use discernment from the Holy Spirit as you lead your group discussion.

If you notice that someone in your group needs additional care or support that’s beyond your capacity, please let a pastor know.

ICEBREAKER QUESTION OPTION:

If you could have a 15-minute conversation with a Bible character other than Jesus, who would it be and why?

The good life part 1

SPEAKER: PASTOR Wes Washington

Scriptures—

Acts 2:37-47; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Peter 4:10; John 3:16

Key Takeaways—

  • The "good life" is about activating what God has already put inside believers, not chasing after worldly definitions of success.

  • Generosity is a core characteristic of God's nature and should be reflected in believers' lives.

  • The early church demonstrated radical generosity by selling possessions and sharing with those in need.

  • Only 20% of church attendees are responsible for most of the giving and serving, which needs to change.

  • Generosity encompasses more than just money; it includes time, talents, and resources.

  • Selfishness requires more effort than generosity for a Spirit-filled believer.

  • Community and small groups are essential for spiritual growth and healing.

Discussion Questions—

  1. How might our understanding of 'the good life' change if we focused on activating what God has already placed within us, rather than chasing after external things?

  2. In what ways has the cultural narrative of success and fulfillment affected your own view of contentment and godliness?

  3. How can we as individuals and as a church community shift from a consuming mindset to one of generosity and service?

  4. How might our lives and communities be transformed if we truly believed and acted on the idea that 'when you have God, you have everything you need'?

  5. What might it look like in your life to have your schedule formed around God, rather than trying to fit God into your schedule?

  6. In what ways can we shift our mentality to see giving as gaining rather than losing, and how might this change our approach to generosity?

Practical application—

Take time this week to review your schedule and consider how you can make God the center rather than an addition.

Each day this week, look for one opportunity to be generous (with time, resources, or encouragement). Reflect on how it impacts both you and the recipient.

Closing Prayer—

Heavenly Father,

Cultivate in us a spirit of generosity. Empower Rust City to reflect the vibrant community seen in Acts, and for opportunities to impact our local community through generous living.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
