Day 3: You Are Not a Spectator

Scripture: “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

– 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Devotional:
God did not save you to be a spectator. He drafted you onto a team and supernaturally equipped you to play. Your spiritual gift isn't for your spiritual resume; it's a tool for building up others. The church is suffering from a consumer mentality, filled with people who show up to receive but never contribute. The Holy Spirit didn't give you a gift for you to keep it on the bench. What would your church look like if everyone served with the same level of commitment (or lack thereof) as you?

Think About:

  1. Am I a consumer or a contributor in the body of Christ? What evidence supports my answer?

  2. If I don't know my spiritual gift, will I commit to seeking it out? If I do know it, am I using it faithfully?

Pray:
Holy Spirit, shake me out of my spiritual passivity. Show me the gift You have given me for the good of Your church. Give me the courage to get off the sidelines and into the game, serving others with the power You provide.
